Even as Royal Sporting House commenced carving
out a new growth engine with retailing, the Company continued
to grow distribution as the mainstay of its business. By 1989,
Royal Sporting House has acquired representation to nine established
distribution lines, including Lacoste, Niblick, Wilson, Babolat
VS, Reebok, Taylor Made, Tommy Armour, Spalding and K-Swiss.
Today, in addition to retailing, the Group has established marketing
and distribution as its second growth engine, powering RSH to
new heights with over 60 international brand-names.
A crowning achievement in Royal Sporting House’s
distribution business is its joint venture with Reebok International
in September 1987, which gave Royal Sporting House exclusive
rights to all Reebok footwear and apparel in Singapore, Malaysia
and Indonesia. In early 1988, RSH launched Reebok in Singapore
with much fanfare in its stores and extensive television advertising.
The Reebok brand took off, enjoying over 40 per cent of the
market share in Singapore and Malaysia, and establishing itself
as the brand leader within 36 to 40 months.
